The delightfully named Shuckle Ferry offers what we understand is New Zealand’s only oyster farm tour. Jump on board for a 90-minute tour departing from Scotts Landing in Mahurangi East, a gorgeous part of the world, one hour’s drive north of Auckland.
The boat tours have been operating since 2013, but the Saltwater Workshop oyster farm was established long before that. Saltwater has been farming oysters on Mahurangi Harbour since 1991.
On the tour, you’ll learn how Mahurangi oysters are farmed, watch them being freshly picked, and see some master shucking. Even better, you’ll be able to savour them fresh out of the sea and off the barbecue, washed down with wine, beer or juice. All of this while surrounded by stunning views.
Summer sunset tours are available, and if you are wanting to book the whole boat out, for a group of friends or a corporate event perhaps, you can do that too. This could be anything from the regular 90-minute tour to a tailored and catered big day-out experience.
