On Tasmania’s Great Eastern Drive, two hours from Hobart and 90 minutes from Launceston, Devil’s Corner cellar door overlooks the stunning Freycinet Peninsula and Hazards mountain range, which are namesakes for the winery’s premium tier of wine.
This leading producer of cool-climate varietals specialises in pinot noir, chardonnay, riesling, and syrah. Named after a rugged bend in the nearby Tamar River, Devil’s Corner underwent an extensive makeover in 2021, enhancing its cellar door to provide a year-round destination for immersive food and wine experiences.
In 2024, Devil’s Corner’s joined Ultimate Winery Experiences Australia, a collective of premium, award-winning wineries offering experiences that invite visitors to go beyond the cellar door. And the ultimate winery experience here comes with oysters.
The cellar door and vineyards are situated on the edge of Moulting Lagoon, an internationally significant Ramsar wetland that supports several rare and threatened Tasmanian species of birds and plant life. Guests can climb a timber lookout at the entrance to the property to appreciate the panoramic views.
With expansive decks for alfresco dining, the cellar door boasts two key spaces for experiences. Taking inspiration from its natural surroundings, the Hazards Tasting Room offers is an all-day space with sweeping views, where wine tastings can be paired with fresh Tasmanian seafood and wood-fired pizzas.
Underground cellar
Below the Hazards Tasting Room is the Devil’s Den, an impressive underground cellar built into the hillside where private masterclasses, functions and events are held, with views across the rolling vineyards and lagoon. Guests can book an immersive Ultimate Winery Experience to go beyond the cellar door.
The Moulting Lagoon Experience goes off the beaten track, exploring the picturesque vineyards before a hands-on oyster shucking demonstration from the back of a ute with a glass of riesling or pinot gris in hand. After enjoying the fresh Freycinet oysters, guests return to the Devil’s Den to feast on local Tasmanian seafood paired with premium Devil’s Corner wines.
Alternatively, guests with a sweet tooth can indulge in a wine and chocolate pairing, where a flight of four wines is paired with artisanal chocolates from local producer Tutumaz & The Devil.
Devil’s Corner is part of the Brown Family Wine Group, which also owns Brown Brothers in Victoria’s King Valley region. Brown Brothers is also a member of Ultimate Winery Experiences Australia.
