Newcastle Food Month is Australia’s largest and longest regional food festival, and Plate Date is one of its most popular events.
Presented by First Creek Wines, Plate Date is a deal available throughout April at more than 70 Newcastle restaurants, cafés and pubs offering a drink and a signature dish for $30 (and in some cases, $25). There’s a full list here of the venues involved.
One of the participating venues is The Kingfish seafood restaurant, which offers relaxed coastal dining at Honeysuckle on the Newcastle waterfront. Its $30 deal includes three freshly shucked oysters of your choice served with a glass of bubbles.
Kingfish owner Garry Risteski invited us to try some of the Port Stephens oysters at his other restaurant, Blanca, which itself is offering an indulgent Plate Date (Grilled saganaki drizzled with honey, oregano, and gentle spice, served with Lavender or Limoncello Spritz).
Both deals are available at lunch and dinner any day of the week except Saturday.
